Life and Baseball

Why do we love baseball?
It's painfully slow. Professional games take 3 plus hours. Its not even a really good method of exercise. The season goes on forever and the Jays never seem to have a shot at the playoffs.
But I still love it.
Baseball is a reflection of life.
It resonates with us in so many ways.

Its the game of second chances. You can be down 7-0 with 2 outs in the 9th, but you still have a chance to make things right. How many of us needed that second chance in our own lives?

The game has room for 7 footers, 300 pounders and tiny speeders. No other sport has teams that resemble the common crowd. We can all see ourselves on a baseball team team.

Every season has rhythms and traditions like a yearly calendar and family holidays. Christmas Day, New Years Eve and Thanksgiving are replaced by Opening Day, the homer run derby, and the World Series. Take me out to Ball game is our carol and the ceremonial first pitch is our parade.

We have stadiums called cathedrals, with our own statues of past heroes of our tradition.

It mirrors life's highs and lows from strike out to homers. The frustration of trying to hit that little white ball is a break from being frustrated by our jobs.

For the next three weeks ill sacrifice sleep and forgo friendships.
Cant wait for the playoffs
