The Pricetag of Success

-->
Get more, do less

Seems like a great concept. If I could win the lottery, invent an idea, corner the market, yet at the same time not have to put in too much effort.

I can have my cake and eat it to.

We all battle time and money. None of us has enough time to live the life we want.

Few of us seem to have enough money to afford the life we want either.

Hence the need for a get rich quick scheme

It’s a nice storyline but it’s highly fictional.

* A survey just released in Health and Fitness detailed that The Olympic athletes we are all about to watch spend an average of 20-30 a week in training alone, and have accumulated over 10 000 hours or focused training in the past 5 years.

* I just read in the Wall Street Journal how there is a direct correlation between salary earned and increased work hours. Conversely there was a correlation between lower salaries and increasing leisure time. It’s not true in every case obviously, but generally speaking, the more money we earn, the longer we have to work for it,

* The people who achieve the great things in our world have often sacrificed time, relationships, money… life really… in order to achieve their dreams. I doubt many national leaders have many Tuesday evenings off to attend soccer games or sit on the PTA.

So what really am I willing to pay?

What are you willing to risk.?

If our “dreams” of achievement end up costing the reward of family, friends, and life going on all around us, how much is the accomplishment worth? To me… to you?

I’m sure the answer lies in a balance, but balance can often feel like a copout answer. It’s not just about money either. Been contemplating lately how the history makers of our world have often had to forgo the experiences afforded to the individual who works an honest job and lives out life with their family, in their community, contributing but never standing out. Being loved by their family, but celebrated for their success.

Maybe it’s a bad definition of success.

Maybe it’s a choice that each of us needs to weigh.

Maybe it just boils down to different seasons of life.

What cost am I willing to take on to achieve the path set out before me.
