The Church Doesn’t Have a Leadership Problem, We Have a Discipleship Problem

In the past 3 years, I’ve now watched 5 Christian leaders whom I had deep respect for have to come forward with confessions of sexual misconduct (2 in the past few weeks). These individuals were mentors to my mentors, and shaped the church that my generation is now leading. Much of what I know about how to succeed in ministry was taught to me by individuals who now no longer seem so successful. And these for sure aren’t the only 4, there have been countless others who have come undone by fame, fortune or inappropriate sexual behaviour. I’m not sure any one of us is able to fully process all that we’re experiencing right now, and many individuals have spoken publicly that this is a season of God refining His Church. Life Happens

What was the biggest challenge that you faced today? Somebody probably put you into a situation where you were forced to make a choice that had significant consequences. Regardless of what you chose to do, someone was going to get upset with you. In some cases, both sides would be mad. But like the trooper you are, you pushed through and made the tough call didn’t you? Here’s the bigger question. When you were faced with this situation did you feel like your choices led you there, or did life just kinda happen to you? There’s a big difference between people who figure out that most of the time life is not happening to us. We are in control of where we go, who we see and the challenges we face. It doesn’t mean that we can predict the future, but it does mean that we are responsible for how our days go. More importantly, we are accountable for our reactions. I Support The Right To Gay Marriage... and it's a Sin.

Admittedly I’m a fairly straight laced kind of guy. I’m a good neighbour, pay my taxes, and eat my veggies. When I’m mad I say “dang it all to heck” with a really nasty frown. 11:00 is pretty late night. I might push it to midnight every now and then. I also choose to live my life according to Christian Biblical values. Don’t lie cheat or steal. ( Ex 20: 13-15 ) Don’t hold onto hate. ( 1 John 3:15) Honour your parents. ( 1 Tim 1:10 ) A lot has been made in the news this week with gay marriage being made legal in all 50 States, much like it has been for many years here in Ontario where I live. Many church-goers seem to be outraged by the fact that gay people will be afforded the label of “married” like straight people are and be given the same rights.
