Welcome to the most depressing time of the year!
Halloween is over and your candy sugar high has plummeted.
Christmas is still too far away to feel real, even though the Santa Claus
Parades try to make it seem not so.
It’s the only month of the year without a long weekend or at
least a day off!
It’s the month with the least amount of sunshine all year,
every tree is dead and it starts to get really cold.
Feeling depressed yet?
Permission to go and
eat a tub of ice cream now. (Preferably candy cane ice cream as that may remind
you that Christmas is coming.)
November is just one of those months most of us can do
without (apologies to those of you with
birthdays and anniversaries in November… please try and change that).
With everyone feeling so low these days, doesn’t it make you
think that there must be a better way to do this?
There probably is.
The past few weeks our church has been on a journey to try
to figure out a better way.
- A better
way to rest so we’re not crashing all the time.
- A better
way to work, so that we feel fulfilled by our work, and work out of our rest.
- A better
way to live – feeling fully healthy.
The Bible talks about this principal of Sabbath – resting
one full day from all our jobs/tasks every seven days. It runs so counter culture
to everything we seem to be fed.
If we work harder and longer, we’ll be more successful.
People brag about never stopping and sleeping only a few
hours a night.
Yet the Bible seems to be painting a picture of a rhythm or life
that includes time to reflect, to relax, and enjoy the relationships with
people around us.
This Sunday Peter and Geri Scazzero are coming to tell their
story and share what they’ve learned… combining clinical principals of
emotional and mental health with scriptural principles of Sabbath. A few years
ago, Geri found herself in a place where the most “spiritual” thing she needed
to do was quit her husband's church in order to save herself and save her
family.
Since I’m leading a new church – we really can’t afford
anyone to quit.
:)
More importantly we really can’t afford anyone to succumb to November-itis and crash and burn.

So…
1) WOULD YOU BE BRAVE
ENOUGH TO TRUST THAT YOU CAN FIT EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO DO WITHIN 6 DAYS, AND
TRUST GOD WITH THE 7TH. USE IT AS A DAY TO RELAX, REFLECT AND ENJOY
RELATIONSHIPS. Sabbath is the one commandment so many Christ followers regularly
break and feel like they're making God happier by doing so.
2) WOULD YOU COME
CHECK OUT GERI AND PETER THIS WEEKEND (NOV 23/24) Saturday the 23rd
is the emotionally healthy women’s conference http://www.growingleadership.com/events/ehwoman, and on Sunday Geri is Milton
(Peter is in Mississauga… but you’d rather come to Milton right?). Then Sunday
evening both Peter and Geri are leading an emotionally healthy people conference
from 6:00 – 9:00. http://www.theportico.ca
Would you invest a few hours this weekend, slowing down, to possibly do life differently?
