Choose Right More Often Than Not

A 6-figure salary,
A 6-pack of abs,
6 perfect kids (OK… let’s go with 2 perfect kids)
And a spouse that loves you… even though you’re you.
That life seems like a dream to most of us.
And when we see a person who has that kind of life we figure they got lucky, hit the lottery, or found a magic genie or something.

Everyday, every one of us wakes us and plays this game we call life, yet it’s not very often that we feel like we’re winning. We only see 6 figures, when we include the numbers after the decimal, we’re rocking a keg of abs rather than a 6 pack, and our kids make as much noise and mess as 6 would, but there is indeed only 2 of them.

So do we just give up? Plug along and look for the joy in the mess, and then wait until life deals us a better hand.
Truth be told - there is merit in that mindset. Make the best of what you have.
Money, looks, and the perfect family are rather empty goals to strive for, and there is true joy and satisfaction to be found in our brokenness and shortcomings. Even people who do find a way to reach any of these milestones still feel that there is more to life. But still. Money doesn’t hurt. Most of would be marginally happier if we got a little more in shape. And everything gets easier when the kids are well behaved.

What if there was a way to make you own breaks?
Life can be broken down to a series of small individual choices that add up to big trends. The average adult makes 35 000 conscious choices every day. Some are very inconsequential:
Blue socks or brown.
Reply All or Just Reply
Dark roast or house blend (OK - that one is a little more of consequence)
Add these choices up, and at the end f the day you have added nothing of value to your life.

Save $10 or spend $10
Chicken Wings or Chicken Salad.
Binge watch “Suits” or take the family out mini golfing.
Stay late to do a great job at work, or leave early because that's your right.
Take a training course, or get in on another football fantasy pool.

Add these up at the end of the year and your life will be very different. While nothing is ever a 100% guaranteed and sometimes we are fighting from a position of deficit due to conditions beyond our control, the majority of us have more control than we ever admit to ourselves.
We do indeed have the power to make a degree of change happen.

If we want the big things in life to go well, we need to make the little choices everyday.
Life change comes one little decision at a time.
None us will ever be perfect all the time, but what if we were to do more things right than not today. And then again tomorrow.
And then again every day for the rest of our lives.
I wonder how many times we would feel like we were winning?
