Swimming Upstream

Nobody likes to swim upstream all the time.
The feeling that everyone else thinks differently than you do, can be exhausting. It makes you want to give up. Just go with the flow. At the very least maybe you change the pond you’re swimming in to one that fits better with where you want to go.

I’ve had many discussions over the last little while with people who are frustrated because no one else seems to think like they do.
“I’m working hard for excellence, but nobody else seems to care.”
“I‘d like to evolve, but everyone else is happy with the status quo.”
“I’d like to do something that makes a difference rather than just engage in the same old same old.”

We start to question the point in working for change, because no one else around us can even see the need for change. But the saddest thing I’ve experienced is watching so many young dreamers, people with skills and abilities to make changes that needs to be changed, give up. And they give up simply because of the sheer number of people who are not ready to change.
To me that’s sad.

Nothing worth doing comes easily.
The voice of change, by definition, has to encounter 1000 voices of opposition as it seeks to bring that change.

This younger generation does not like the feeling of being questioned. We have some important things to say, and valuable insight to offer. However we have this horrible practice of taking our ball and going home the moment of way of thinking is questioned and evaluated.

Bringing change is not easy, but it is worthwhile. It’s important.
The only way to bring change, is to keep at it while the change is being questioned.

Swimming upstream sucks. But the pond you reach at the end makes the journey worth it.
