Too Tired and Too Busy

Think Fast.

Someone just offered you tickets for this weekend to go watch the world juniors play for the gold medal (or ‘The Grinch” musical, whichever suits you better). What’s your reaction?

You say yes right? You make it work.

Next question.

Your neighbour needs help moving out this weekend, and it’s supposed to be just below zero and raining. Are you still free, or do you all of a sudden remember all those little things that will make you too tired or busy to fit it in.

I read a story of Jesus stuck in a similar situation this morning, and was reminded that even is His humanity, he made time for the right things. Jesus was on his way to see the sick girl of Jairus, who was an important church leader (probably an associate of Jesus). A woman whom he didn’t know at all and was probably a social outcast stops and asks for his help and he makes time for her. On another occasion Jesus is sleeping on a boat because he had been doing public speaker for the entire afternoon and evening, but his friends on the boat became afraid of the storm. Jesus gets up to help calm their fears.

When was the last time you told someone you were too tired or too busy to help?

It’s a phrase that a lot of use instead of telling the truth that we just aren’t willing to make time for that certain request. We make time for free tickets, but have a hard time doing the same thing to help a friend in need. We always have time for whatever our priorities are. As we move into a new year, I was reminded to try to make it a priority not just too say, “Sorry, I’m too busy.” 2011 will be a year when I make time for the ‘right’ things.
