1 + 1 Does Not Always Equal 2

It’s really easy to hate math class isn’t it? There are so many formulas’ to remember, so many numbers that it’s easy to make transposing errors… and just so many confusing concepts that it seems only natural to fail it. Math must be one of the most hated subjects by students’ worldwide. Now gym… there is a subject. If I can get the same amount of credits for playing dodge ball as I can for completing trigonometry equations then sign me up.

Funny thing though - we treat our lives much like math than we do gym

Did your parents teach you that if you lived right, ate healthy, and obeyed all the rules that life would go well for you? Most of us hold a general belief that life is like a math equation. If we use the right formula, we’ll get the answer we want. But life isn’t like that is it. George Burns drank and smoked cigars everyday of his life and was a healthy entertainer for 100 years yet Walter Payton one of the greatest running backs the NFL has seen died of cancer at 45 despite taking immaculate care of his body. Princess Diana left her husband for infidelity and fought to make a difference in this world lost her life, while Bill Clinton fought only for his own comfort stills commands over 1 million dollars for a speaking engagement.

Life is not fair. 1 + 1 doesn’t always equal 2.

We have a generation obsessed with fairness and personal rights. Truth is that I don’t always get what I deserve. Sometimes this is a very good thing. Sometimes, I get the short end of the stick.

When you start to face challenges, stop questioning whether or not it’s fair, or whether or not you deserve this kind of treatment, and instead make the best with what you are given. Sometime I find that crappy situations are actually an opportunity for me to make a difference. Challenges give us perspective. They give us an opportunity to rise above. Besides, who wants to live in a world governed by math principles anyways?
